Attention to this problem in adult women
What is Urinary Incontinence?
Urinary incontinence is the condition that occurs due to women not being able to control their bladder as well as before, resulting in the person’s “undercontinence”. Urinary incontinence usually occurs with age. Aging and some traumatic events; can weaken the muscles and connective tissues that control the bladder. This makes it more difficult for women to control their bladder. As a result, events such as urinary incontinence and urinary incontinence occur.
What Are the Causes of Urinary Incontinence?
The most common causes of urinary incontinence in women are; weakening of muscles and tissues with age, vaginal infections, stone formation in the urinary tract and kidneys, some disorders of the nervous system, use of various medications and relaxation of the bladder.
In addition, various diseases can also cause urinary incontinence in women. An obstetrician should be consulted for the diagnosis and treatment of these diseases.
Types of urinary incontinence
Urinary incontinence is graded among different groups based on how it occurs. Types of urinary incontinence include:
• Overflow-type urinary incontinence: In overflow-type urinary incontinence, the bladder fills with urine. However, this filling does not cause the person to go to the toilet as normal. This results in urinary incontinence due to the overflow of the bladder.
• Impingement-type Urinary Incontinence: In urge urinary incontinence, patients have a sudden need to go to the toilet and are generally unable to hold back until they go to the toilet. As a result, urinary incontinence occurs.
• Stress-type urinary incontinence: Stress-type urinary incontinence causes sudden tension and pressure on the full bladder. This is usually due to actions such as laughing, coughing, sneezing, or lifting weights. The sudden pressure on the bladder muscles causes the person to leak urine.
• Mixed-type urinary incontinence: Mixed-type urinary incontinence is the condition in which stress incontinence and urge incontinence occur together. Overflow urinary incontinence may also accompany the condition. It is also called mixed urinary incontinence.
How is urinary incontinence treated?
The treatment of urinary incontinence requires a special approach to the patient’s problems. As part of the treatment of urinary incontinence, a detailed examination of the patient is performed. Various imaging techniques and special tests may be used during the examination. Thus, the problems that cause the patient’s urinary incontinence are detected.
After that, a treatment process begins to solve these problems. Each disease is eliminated with their own special treatments. In addition, with urinary incontinence due to advanced age, special exercises are applied to strengthen the bladder muscles and ligaments of the patient.
Thus, patients can get rid of urinary incontinence problems and continue their social life without fear of embarrassing situations.
