Bad news for tea and coffee drinkers

ATTENTION TO HIS VOICE WHICH REMAINS OVER 15 DAYS!
All over the world, April 16 is celebrated as World Sound Day. It aims to raise awareness on this day, which draws attention to the importance of voice health. Since some of the infections that affect the upper respiratory tract also affect the vocal cords, hoarseness can occur. Dr. Murat Topak warned: “This situation disappears after a while with the natural course of the disease or with treatment. However, hoarseness that lasts longer than 15 days definitely needs the evaluation of an ENT specialist.”
IF YOU HAVE DIFFICULT BREATHING, CONSULT A DOCTOR
Declare that if there are difficulty breathing with hoarseness, a specialist should be consulted. Dr Murat Topak said: “This is a sign that the disease affecting the vocal cords has started to prevent breathing air from passing between the vocal cords, which are one of the narrowest parts of the airways.
COFFEE AND TEA DRY THE VOICE chords
Prof. Dr. Murat Topak stated that smoking should be avoided for a healthy voice and summed up his recommendations as follows: “Smoking is the worst enemy of the voice. It is the leading cause of throat and lung cancer. to stop smoking and avoid exposure to cigarette smoke in the environment Caffeine (coffee, tea, chocolate) and alcohol dry out the vocal cords and increase damage to the vocal cords. Caffeine and alcohol should be consumed in moderation. To balance their negative effects it would be good to increase fluid intake.
FOR AT LEAST 8 GLASSES OF WATER
It is essential to moisten the layer that covers the vocal cords. For this, at least 6-8 glasses of water should be drunk daily. The humidity of the ambient air is also important.
DO NOT USE ANY MEDICINE WITHOUT CONSULTING A DOCTOR
Medicines should be used in consultation with the doctor. For example, antihistamines in drugs randomly used for the common cold reduce mucus secretion and cause the layer that covers the inner surface of the airways to dry out. If you must take drugs with dehydrating properties, increase your fluid intake while taking drugs to compensate. In addition, ensure sufficient humidity in the living and working environment.
REFLUX INFLUENCES SOUND
Laryngopharyngeal reflux not only changes the structure of the mucous membrane of the vocal cords, but also affects the voice with the feeling of fullness and stuckness in the throat. To prevent laryngopharyngeal reflux: – Avoid spicy foods.
– Chocolate, fat milk and dairy products; In addition to increasing stomach acid, they also thicken mucus and reduce vocal cord moisture.
– Make sure your stomach is empty for 2-3 hours before going to bed; because in the supine position the acid content in the stomach can escape more easily and gastric emptying is also delayed during sleep.
– Sleep with a pillow or place a platform under the bed so that your head is at an angle of 30 degrees with the horizontal. – Some drugs increase laryngopharyngeal reflux by increasing stomach acid, eliminating the protective barriers between the stomach and esophagus, or slowing gastric emptying; Do not use any medicines, including those obtained naturally, without consulting your doctor. – Because stress causes muscle tension, it can lead to powerful vocalization and thus to damage to the vocal cords. Avoid professional use of your voice in stressful situations.”
DO NOT TALK LOUD
Prof. Dr. Murat Topak summed up his suggestions for vocal health as follows:
1- Avoid loud talking, yelling and yelling
. 2- Avoid frequent throat clearing and coughing; these movements are usually a sign of a bad voice habit and/or dryness of the vocal cords and damage your laryngeal tissue. Swallow or drink some water if you feel the need to clear your throat.
3- Don’t try to talk without getting enough air; Make sure that your speaking rate is not high and breathe more often. Breathe deeply through the nose and into the abdomen.
4- Avoid excessive talking and singing when your voice is distorted or tired. Reducing speaking or not speaking for a while will usually restore a tired voice.”
