Expert warns: heart patients should consume sacrificial meat with little salt and fat
Cardiology specialist Prof. Dr. Hasan Turhan made statements about what heart and blood pressure patients should pay attention to while feeding on Eid al-Adha.
Expressing that healthy eating should not be ignored during the holidays, Prof. Dr. Turhan said: “If we consider the traditional way of Eid-al-Adha in our society, we see that there are intense visits and sharing, rather than just to fulfill a religious duty, and that eating habits have changed dramatically, albeit for a short time. For this reason, it is necessary to make some recommendations to heart and blood pressure patients regarding this process, and to remember the needs and importance of healthy nutrition, which we know but have forgotten.”
COOKED MEAT CAN BE CONSUMED
Talking about what heart patients should pay attention to when consuming sacrificial meat, Prof. Dr. Turhan shared the following information:
“Heart patients can consume sacrificial meat during Eid al-Adha as they do in their normal lives. What matters here is how often, in what quantity and with what content the sacrificial meat can be consumed. There is a general restriction in the consumption of red meat in the diet of heart patients. This restriction is that the consumption of red meat should not exceed two meals per week. If we consider the meat of the sacrifice within the scope of red meat, it can be eaten during the feast and the following days, with no more than two meals per week. While consuming the meat of the sacrifice, care should be taken not to use the parts we call fat and offal. Preparing the meat in the form of boiled rather than cooking in oil is a more suitable method for heart patients. In addition to meat, it is preferable to be rich in carbohydrates and consume salads instead of foods such as rice or potatoes, as they are easier to digest and contain fewer calories.
OVERCONSUMPTION OF MEAT CAN CAUSE DIGESTIVE PROBLEMS
Explaining the harms of excessive meat consumption, Prof. Dr. Turhan said, “Excessive meat consumption during Eid al-Adha raises cholesterol levels due to saturated fat from animal foods. In addition, consuming too much sacrificial meat can cause digestive problems. For this reason, if it is to be consumed, it should be consumed as boiled or grilled rather than frying in oil and processed meat.
MEAT SHOULD NOT BE CONSIDERED IN EVERY MEAL FOR HEALTH
prof. Dr Turhan said: “Eating too much at one meal, consuming foods that are difficult to digest and preferring salty meals negatively affect their blood pressure. The blood pressure lowering treatments they use are insufficient and the rise and irregularity of blood pressure blood pressure values cannot be directly controlled by adjusting the treatment. During the holiday period, hypertension and heart patients should ensure that they do not consume red meat with every meal and do not disturb their normal diet. The amount of red meat should be consumed as 2 meals a week and care should be taken that it is low in salt and lean.In addition to the sacrificial meat, easily digestible foods should be consumed in salads and other meals.
SALAD MUST BE CONSUMPTION WITH THE MEAT
Emphasizing that it is possible for heart and hypertension patients to have a healthy vacation, Prof. Dr. Turhan said: “Heart and hypertension patients in particular should not change their normal daily life and diet too much in order to have a trouble-free Eid already -Have Adha in terms of health. In saying this, it does not mean that these patients will never consume the flesh of the sacrifice or that they will stay away from the beauties associated with the holiday. They can consume the meat of the sacrifice in an appropriate amount, prepared in sleepy conditions, without fat and with less salt. Salad is preferable instead of foods like bread, rice and sweets, and milk desserts should be consumed instead of syrup desserts for those who want to eat sweets. You should increase fluid consumption as much as possible, have meals intermittently, and consume more balanced foods at mealtimes after heavy meals. Heart and blood pressure diseases are negatively affected by excessive fatigue, stress and insomnia. While meeting the requirements of a healthy diet, heart and blood pressure patients should try to maintain their normal life pattern and avoid excessive fatigue, stress and insomnia during the Eid al-Adha period.
