Expert warns: untreated inguinal hernia can affect digestion
associate Dr. Mehmet Ali Gök made statements against inguinal hernia. associate Dr. Mehmet Ali Gök, who states that in addition to swelling, an inguinal hernia can also cause pain, said: “Inguinal hernia is usually noticed by the person himself or his doctor during the check-up due to swelling in the groin area. The swelling may be accompanied by pain and a burning sensation. In cases where internal pressure increases, these pains can become more severe. inguinal hernias; may become invisible due to the decrease in intra-abdominal pressure. However, the decrease in the visibility of the hernia should not mean that the risk has decreased or that the disease is over. It should not be thought that the hernia can go away on its own with time and rest. Inguinal hernias should be evaluated and treated by a physician,” he said.
PROGRESSIVE HERRICULAR MAY CAUSE LIMITED MOVEMENT
Noting that untreated inguinal hernias progress and may cause other complaints, Assoc. Dr Gamb continued:
“Inguinal hernia is mainly caused by two mechanisms. The first is the increase in intra-abdominal pressure due to various reasons and the other is the weakening of the resistance of the abdominal wall. The internal organ that causes blockage and complications in inguinal hernia is usually the intestines.Hernia occurs when the intestines form a pouch by putting pressure on the weak spots on the inner abdominal wall. When the hernia comes out of the sac, the hernia becomes invisible. In some cases, the intestines enter the hernia sac with the elevation of the internal pressure, but it does not return with the decrease of the internal pressure. These conditions are colloquially referred to as strangulated hernias.Progressive hernias can cause digestive problems and restrictions in movement.Nausea and vomiting, loss of appetite in the patient, constipation, bloating sensation and fever may occur Swelling, redness and bruising in the area of the hernia indicate that suffocation may be occurring. Such situations are emergency situations and may require emergency hernia surgery. It is necessary to remove the blockage of the part of the intestine that has the hernia in the groin, and restore blood circulation. Untreated inguinal hernias can cause permanent damage and tissue loss in the intestine and peritoneum.
CAN BE REPAIRED WITH SYNTHETIC PATCHES
associate Dr. Gök stated that hernias do not heal on their own and provided the following information:
The appearance of an inguinal hernia can vary depending on the patient’s current condition and the type of hernia. However, hernias do not heal on their own. It is not possible to treat an inguinal hernia with medication. Inguinal hernia treatment may be possible with surgical treatment methods. The goal of hernia surgery is to remove the organ trapped in the sac and repair this damaged area with various surgical techniques and synthetic plasters. Hernia surgery can be performed under general anesthesia, local anesthesia, or low back anesthesia, depending on the patient’s condition and hernia. Local anesthesia method in hernia surgery is a valid method for small hernias. The operations are usually performed under the influence of general anesthesia. hernia operations; It can be done with open or closed (laparoscopic) techniques expressed in everyday language. In open surgery, an incision is made with an average length of 6 cm from the groin area. Surgeries are performed through this incision. In laparoscopic surgery, much smaller incisions are made at 3 different points compared to open surgery. Laparoscopic hernia surgery, ie closed hernia surgery, uses a camera to create an image of one of the incisions. Closed hernia surgeries can heal faster because of the small incision. A low risk of infection and less pain are the advantages of closed hernia surgery. However, closed surgery cannot be performed in all cases. In advanced and strangulated hernias, if the patient has other health problems, the surgeon can clearly determine the type of surgery.
THE PURPOSE OF SURGERY IS TO PREVENT PROGRESS AND REPEAT
associate Dr Gök said: “The aim of hernia surgery is to remove the existing hernia and prevent more by adding a patch-like tissue to the area rather than the part of the organ causing the hernia. This patch form is called called a tissue mesh. This is how hernia recurrence is prevented. Hernia surgeries are generally surgical procedures that can be continued in hospitals. The patient is monitored as a precaution against postoperative complications. It usually clears within a day. Studies have shown that in closed operations length of hospital stay is shortened and the patient returns to work sooner After hernia surgery, movements that force the surgical area should be avoided People who have inguinal hernia surgery should not lift too much weight for a while after surgery, lighten their sports program and avoid risky movements.
