If you often get up at night to go to the toilet, be careful!

associate Dr. Bahri Gök provided information on the benefits of the ThuFLEP method in benign prostatic hyperplasia.

Some factors cause the prostate to enlarge

The prostate, a gland in the male body, is a walnut-sized organ located just below the urinary bladder (bladder). Benign prostatic enlargement can sometimes be seen in the prostate, whose main job is to secrete some of the fluid that makes up semen. Benign prostatic hyperplasia is the enlargement of the tissues in the prostate over time with some triggering factors.

Older age is the main reason

In addition to aging, many hormonal interactions, especially the male hormone testosterone, cause benign prostate enlargement. Benign prostatic enlargement, which begins to appear mainly after age 50, is seen in 90 percent of men after age 80.

Watch out for frequent urination and bleeding in the urine

Symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia include frequent urination, weakness when urinating, delay in starting urination, sudden urgency, straining, feeling of incomplete emptying, frequent need to urinate at night, prolonged dribbling after urination, burning pain during urination urination and at the end of urination. , frequent recurrent urinary tract infections, bleeding in the urine and bladder stone formation.

Analyzes and imaging methods are used in diagnosis

Physical examination including genitals for the diagnosis of benign prostatic hyperplasia, where the patient’s detailed history plays an important role in the diagnosis, digital rectal examination to exclude prostate cancer and PSA (prostate specific antigen) value from the blood, urinalysis, urea if suspected is that the prostate enlargement may worsen kidney functions, and creatinine levels, urine pressure test (uroflowmetry) along with prostate size and urinary ultrasound are performed to detect residual urine in the bladder.

ThuFLEP is the gold standard treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia.

While medical treatment is the first choice in treating benign prostatic hyperplasia, surgical treatment emerges in cases where medical treatment fails. Among surgical treatment options, Thulium Fiber Laser Enucleation of the Prostate (ThuFLEP) is currently the gold standard treatment method. Compared to other laser technologies, the sharpness of the tissue is higher, so that the Thulium fiber laser is less likely to damage the tissue. With Thulium fiber laser, a closed method, the adenoma tissue that causes the patient’s urinary complaints is removed so that the prostate capsule remains in place. Prostate tissue is removed with an instrument called a morcellator.

ThuFLEP offers a comfortable recovery period with the benefits it offers

ThuFLEP surgery, which can be performed on anyone, has many benefits for the patient, except for patients with prostate cancer who are in very poor general health and cannot afford the appropriate anesthesia for surgery. These benefits can be listed as follows;

– Bleeding is less
– Length of hospital stay is shortened,
– Because it has a low effect on the tissue, it causes less damage to the nerves and the risk of sexual dysfunction is low,
– The inserted probe is taken earlier,
– It can be easily applied to people with heart and lung diseases,
– Although tissues cannot be examined pathologically in some laser operations, tissues can be examined pathologically with ThuFLEP,
– It can be easily applied in large prostates,
– When applied by experienced surgeons and the prostate tissues are completely removed, there is no risk of recurrence of the disease.
