“If your child can’t perform an ordinary skill, it could be a ‘sensory integration disorder'”

Sensory integration is known as a neurological informational process that organizes the senses of the body and the environment. Dr. Instructor Member Gülşah Konakoğlu stated that this process is the basis of behavior and learning.

“FUNCTIONAL SENSORY ADJUSTMENT DOES NOT DIFFICULT TO PARTICIPATE IN DAILY ACTIVITIES”

“In everyday life, the meaningful and purposeful realization of various activities is achieved through sensory harmony. Konakoglu said:

“The development of adequate sensory adaptation and processing leads to learning and behavior. Dysfunctional sensory adaptation makes it difficult to perform and participate in daily activities. When the brain cannot process sensory information effectively, it is reflected in behavior and learning is inhibited.”

“A HYPERSENSITIVE CHILD CAN DISTURB BY TOUCH, CROWDED SPACES AND NOISE”

The symptoms of sensory processing disorder depend on which sense is affected; it depends on how this feeling is affected and the severity of the condition. Konakoğlu said these disorders can sometimes be seen in one or more than one sensory system, saying, “There are 3 subtypes of sensory integration disorder. This; hypersensitivity, hypersensitivity and sense-seeking. In such situations, children may have unusual responses to a common stimulus. For example; A hypersensitive child may feel uncomfortable with touch, crowded places and loud noises. A hypersensitive child, on the other hand, cannot receive enough sensory information and needs even more stimuli to perform an ordinary skill. It tends to touch and feel.

“PARENTS NEED TO BE EDUCATE”

In sensory integration treatment, the therapist helps the child develop appropriate behavior by arranging activities and the environment according to his/her sensory profile. Dr. Instructor Member Gülşah Konakoğlu said, “Parents should be educated to raise awareness about the child’s previously unrecognized reactions and emotions. Using sensory attunement allows children to exhibit a higher level of gross motor skills and fine motor skills. It can also boost their self-confidence. He can manage his own self-control better and the attention span can be longer,” he said.
