About eyelid surgery, known as eyelid aesthetics, Assoc. Dr Şenay Aşık Nacaroğlu explained to the curious. associate Dr Nacaroğlu said blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure performed to correct aesthetic problems in the eyelid area, to eliminate signs of aging and sometimes to treat eyelid problems that cause a narrowing of the visual field. Assoc. states that blepharoplasty can usually be applied separately or together for the upper and lower eyelids. Dr Nacaroğlu said: “Upper eyelid blepharoplasty involves removing or reshaping excess skin and fatty tissue in the eyelid. During this process, the wrinkles on the eyelid are removed and the eyelid takes on a younger and more dynamic appearance. Lower eyelid blepharoplasty aims to correct puffiness or excess skin on the lower eyelid. During this procedure, excess fatty tissue is removed or reshaped with an incision on the inside of the eyelid. If the excess skin is accompanied, the excess skin can be treated with an incision under the lash line.
After a few months, the scars become unnoticeable
associate Dr. Nacaroğlu pointed out that blepharoplasty gives the eyelids a younger and more energetic appearance and a smoother appearance of the eye area, and provided the following information: “Blepharoplasty is usually performed under local anesthesia, but in some cases general anesthesia may be preferred. During the procedure, surgical incisions are usually made in the natural eyelid folds or along the lash line on the lower eyelids so that scars are less noticeable and often go unnoticed within a few months. The healing process usually takes a few days to a few weeks. In the first period after the procedure, swelling, bruising and temporary discomfort may occur. It does not require hospitalization after surgery. A cold compress every hour for a day or two is recommended. Antibiotic eye ointment and artificial tear drops are used in postoperative treatments. No pain is expected after the procedure and the return to daily life is quick.”
may not be suitable for everyone
Noting, however, that eyelid aesthetics may not be for everyone, Assoc. Dr. Nacaroğlu concluded his words as follows:
“To avoid complications, as with any surgical procedure, a detailed eye examination, questioning of systemic diseases and necessary consultations should be made before the procedure to stop taking medications such as blood thinners. Therefore, when considering this type of surgery, it is important to consult your doctor and seek medical advice after examination. Do not forget that measures such as maintaining a healthy lifestyle, avoiding the sun, getting enough sleep and eating a healthy diet can help you maintain the results of eyelid aesthetics for a longer period of time.
