Netflix can also do this to prevent password sharing
Netflix believes that password sharing hurts the company’s revenue. That’s why he wants to prevent the sharing of passwords that could use someone else’s Netflix account. Earlier this week, Netflix officially announced that it already has plans for it. The company will introduce a system that allows customers to add additional members to their account for an additional fee. But what if Netflix has another plan in mind to prevent password sharing?
NETFLIX AND FINGERPRINT?
According to an analyst’s claim, Netflix may have such a plan in mind. That analyst is Ben Wood, chief analyst at CCS Insight. Wood envisions Netflix may require fingerprint scans or facial recognition from its customers to limit password sharing.
Ben Wood said one of the major streaming providers may want biometric evidence that the person is really there. According to Wood, the TV won’t have a fingerprint sensor, but if you want to watch something, a notification will be sent to your mobile phone to prove it’s you and you may need to swipe your fingerprint or scan your face for verification.
In its annual technology forecasts, CCS Insight said streaming services like Netflix will use such methods to authenticate users by 2023.
Wood said Netflix is under pressure to tackle password sharing. He also noted that he will draw lessons from banks for methods to verify user authenticity.
TEST THE SYSTEM TO DELIVER! ONE FOURTH OF THE COST
We said Netflix will introduce a system that allows customers to add additional members to their accounts for an additional fee. This plan is currently even being tested in several Latin American countries. Each additional member tested will charge about a quarter of a “standard” Netflix subscription. If Netflix sticks with this app, each additional sub account will cost about $3.50 to $4 in the US.
Netflix, which experienced its biggest subscriber loss ever earlier this year and is looking for new ways to gain subscribers, is also planning to launch its Netflix advertising plan, which will be cheaper in November, in addition to password-sharing charges.
NETFLIX SUBSCRIPTION ADVERTISED FEATURES
Netflix’s new basic plan with ads will be on sale in the United States for $6.99 per month. So it will be $3 cheaper than the basic basic plan. Netflix with ad subscription is available in Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, Spain, UK, and US. In the first phase, Turkey is not mentioned.
Netflix subscription with ads, as expected, has different features than other subscription options. These are listed as follows;
- Video quality up to 720p (both ad plan and basic plan now support 720p)
- On average, 4 to 5 minutes of ads are shown per hour
- Ads range in length from 15 to 30 seconds. Ads are played before and after the content.
- A limited number of movies and TV shows are not available due to licensing restrictions
- Movies and TV shows cannot be downloaded.
