Nutrition warning for people with chronic diseases










Noting that saturated fatty acids and cholesterol are higher in fatty meats, Assoc. Dr. Murat Doğan said: “I recommend our patients with chronic diseases such as diabetes, cholesterol, blood pressure, gout, cirrhosis, chronic renal failure and coronary arteries to have a light breakfast with lots of vegetables in the morning. They should prefer lean red meat at the table and we recommend taking their medications without skipping doses, starting with the morning meal. Although meat consumption normally differs from person to person, we assume an average of 1 gram of protein per kilogram per day. Therefore, excessive consumption of meat should be avoided. In this process, our patients with gout should pay attention to the amount of meat consumption recommended by the doctor’s recommendations.

Emphasizing the excessive consumption of salt due to the holidays, Assoc. Dr Doğan said: “Unless our doctor suggests otherwise, it is recommended to consume one teaspoon of salt, i.e. an average of 5-6 grams per day. Excessive salt consumption can worsen high blood pressure and heart failure, which can lead to emergency calls instead of a proper vacation. Therefore, it is necessary not to insist on patients and their relatives, and it is useful to encourage them in terms of their diet.

Recommendation to consume sacrificial meat after resting

Claiming that there is a tradition of consuming the meat of the sacrifice after it has been cut, Assoc. Dr Doğan said: “Meat should be consumed after 24 hours of rest. Depending on these consumptions, we encounter digestive problems such as indigestion, bloating, constipation or diarrhea in our patients. For this reason, we advise our patients with gastrointestinal complaints to consume the slaughtered meat after 24 hours of rest. It is necessary to pay attention to the combination of sacrificial meat and salt.”

Critical warning for diabetics

associate Dr Doğan said: “Consumption of high glycemic index products such as bakery products, sweets and chocolate can cause sudden fluctuations in blood sugar levels; It can cause diabetic coma, as people say. Therefore, it is recommended that they stick to their diet as much as possible. We recommend that they consume seasonal fruits or desserts made with milk and dairy products.”
