Rise in Twitter’s Alternative Platforms – Breaking News
The number of alternative social media platforms to Twitter is on the rise
Threads, the social media application that Meta launched today, reached more than 10 million users in its first 7 hours.
In addition to Threads, applications like Truth Social, Mastadon, and Yaay, most notably Bluesky, founded by former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, are among the alternatives.
While Twitter owner Elon Musk and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s “cage fight” dialogue was on the world’s agenda, the social media world’s two big names have now managed to get back on top of the agenda with the platform competition.
ZUCKERBERG’S NEW PLATFORM: THREADS
Meta, the owner of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, launched Threads, a new social media platform that rivals Twitter.
Meta made a statement about Threads, whose interface is similar to Twitter, and reported that Threads is a new application created by the Instagram team to share text content and participate in public chats. The statement, which said the character limit on the new platform is 500, noted that 5-minute links, photos and videos can also be shared.
INSTAGRAM HAS 2 BILLION USERS
Users who download the new Instagram-connected social media platform to their phones can befriend their friends on Instagram through Threads and quickly grow their following. According to January 2023 data from the online statistics portal Statista, Instagram has 2 billion monthly active users, while Twitter has 556 million monthly active users.
Mark Zuckerberg reports that more than 10 million users signed up in the first 7 hours after the launch of the Threads app.
BLUE SKY
Founded in 2021 by Twitter founder and former CEO Jack Dorsey, Bluesky is also one of Twitter’s competitors.
The platform, which has a similar interface to Twitter, is notable for Dorsey’s success on Twitter. Users must have an invitation to register with Bluesky.
TRUTH SOCIAL
Founded by former US President Donald Trump after the closure of his Twitter account, Truth Social also stands out as one of the social media platforms that emerged as a rival to Twitter.
The application is known as a platform mainly used by Republicans in the US.
MASTADON
Mastadon, the social networking platform designed in a decentralized structure, is one of the Twitter alternatives.
The free and open-source platform, where data is not stored in a single source, can be installed on different servers. Users can register on any of these servers and communicate with users on other servers.
