Symptoms of Cancer in Children – Health News

Prof. Dr. Murat Elli made important warnings about childhood cancer in the context of Cancer Week from April 1-7. Prof. Dr. Pointing out that childhood cancer accounts for 1 to 2 percent of cancers in society, Elli said: “Cancer is much more common in adults than in children. As life expectancy increases, the incidence of cancer increases. are environmental and congenital factors that underlie cancer. Today there is no significant increase in the incidence of cancer in children. Only with the development of diagnostic tests has there been a slight increase in the incidence of brain tumors. This is a relative increase because research methods have developed enormously these days.”

Noting that pediatric patients live longer than adult patients when it comes to cancer, Prof Dr Murat Elli said:

“Adults have organ cancer. Prostate and lung cancer in men, uterine, breast and lung cancer in women are common. In children, cancer arises from tissues. Lymphoma disease originating from lymphoid tissues develops. Leukemias originate in the bone marrow and blood-forming cells. Neuroblastoma develops from the sympathetic nervous tissue. Basically, cancer develops from tissues and childhood cancers respond much better to treatment. Therefore, patients who have had cancer in childhood now exist as adults in our society. It is not difficult to detect cancer in children, the main thing is to pay attention. In particular, doctors should say that this child may have cancer, it can be seen. Another important problem is that families can submit an application to the doctor early in case of suspicion.”

Prof. Dr. Murat Elli warned families against the symptoms of childhood cancer as follows:

“If the child’s fever lasts more than 2 weeks, if the child has developed glands called lymph node enlargement, caution is advised. Every child needs glands, which are the body’s defense organs. However, caution should be exercised if the short diameter of the gland is larger than a small hazelnut, if it has not returned to its normal size despite antibiotic treatment, and bruises appear in unexpected places on the body after 2 to 3 weeks. Bruises caused by hitting something are normal, but if there are bruises above the knee, they scare us. One of the main symptoms is pain. Pain that does not pass in children is certainly reminiscent of malignancy (malignant tumour). Especially in children 5 years old and in the first 3 years, if they limp, can’t stand on their feet, or if they indicate displeasure and pain when their parents hold their hands, I think leukemia or neuroblastoma. Pain related to sports passes, but swelling, pain and limping in the extremities and especially in the lower extremities are very important to us.”

According to Prof Dr Elli said: “Children can sometimes do fun tricks to avoid going to school, but if they also have to vomit, if they are weak, can’t walk, can’t do what they used to do, that is say, they can’t eat their own food.” food, can not write, if they lose their abilities and functions, then it is necessary to be afraid. It is necessary to be afraid if the child who does not sleep all the time or does mischief ceases to do so. Early diagnosis is very important in childhood cancer. At the right time, in the right clinic, with the right team, with the right diagnosis and the right treatment, success is very great. Cancer treatment in children is now very advanced. We’ve been put to use in smart drugs, which we call molecular target therapy. For early diagnosis, it is necessary to reach a pediatrician as soon as possible.
