Watch out if your eyes burn! A sign of illness that lasts longer than you think

Claiming it is wrong to think that the itching, lacrimation and redness caused by pollen and dust in the eyes will go away in a short time, experts said this seemingly common condition can cause visual impairment. Eye allergies, which take the lead among seasonal illnesses, resurfaced with the arrival of spring.

Experts, stating that people became more intimate with nature after the desire for the sun manifested itself after the winter months, drew attention to the fact that this entailed problems. Experts said that the greenery and the sun are both beneficial and harmful to human health, and attention should be paid to pollen and invisible dust that arise in spring.

Eye Health and Disease Specialist Op. Dr Adnan İpçioğlu warned that eye allergies, which are common in spring, should not be a nightmare for citizens. İpçioğlu stated that complaints such as redness, itching and watery eyes can be the harbinger of allergies, saying that if not diagnosed early, it can cause serious problems ranging from vision loss.

Claiming there are a few tricks to protect against eye allergies, Op. Dr İpçioğlu said, “First of all, the person with such allergies should stay away from dusty environments. Especially allergic conjunctivitis manifests itself in the form of burning, stinging and itching.

These scratches, in some people, cause a deterioration in the structure of the cornea, the transparent layer in front of the eye, the most serious of which is keratoconus, which causes vision loss. Allergic conjunctivitis usually occurs in childhood in the so-called atopic people and remembers the same seasons for years.

İpçioğlu stated that the sun is both harmful and beneficial, saying, “It seriously increases sun allergy. In other words, the ultraviolet in the sun increases burning, stinging and redness. For this, it is necessary not to go outside during the peak hours of the sun and to find ways to protect yourself if you need to go out. Using sunglasses is allergic.” It seriously protects against conjunctivitis. When we are protected from pollen and sun exposure, we see allergies are also severely reduced.”

İpçioğlu stated that the treatment of eye allergy was initially done with mild drugs and said: “In more severe cases, intensive drug use may be required. Therefore, a doctor’s check-up is very important at this time. Allergic eye inflammation can be caused not only by flower pollen, but also by meadow dust and poplar dust.” We don’t necessarily have to see them with our eyes. Because invisible dust is present in the air to a considerable extent,” he said.
